PM Modi’s 78th Independence Day Speech: Viksit Bharat@2047 and Key Highlights

India is celebrating 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the nation from Historical Red fort for the 11th time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his 11the consecutive speech on 78th Independence Day on Red Fort today also become 3rd Prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to do so.

The First Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru delivered 17 consecutive speeches while Indira Gandhi has delivered 16 times from 1966-1977 and 1980-1984. PM Modi has surpassed Dr. Manmohan Singh, who addressed India 10 times from 2004-2014.

During the Speech Prime Minister Narendra Modi said,”Today the entire country is ‘Tiranga’, every home is ‘Tiranga’ – When the national flag flies high in every home, we see that people come forward, rise above religion, caste, creed and colour for the ‘Tiranga’, then it reassures that the country is moving in the right direction.”

78th Independence Day theme, Celebrations:

“Viksit Bharat@2047” is the theme of 78th Independence Day which highlights the government goal to make India a developed country by 2047on the 100th year of Independence. This year’s celebrations shows India’s achievements in Sports and other fields and honoring the contribution of athletes on world stage.

Tribute to freedom Fighters

Prime Minister Modi has addressed the Nation on 78th Independence Day, where he honored the freedom fighters saying,

“Today is the day to pay tributes to the uncountable ‘Azadi ke deewane’ who made sacrifices for the nation. This country is indebted to them”

Disaster management

PM Modi said ““Natural disasters have heightened our concern over last few years; I express my sympathies to affected families,”

Viksit Bharat

‘Viksit Bharat’ is the theme of 78th Independence Day and PM Modi during his speech talked about Viksit Bharat,

“We are proud that we carry the blood of the 40 crore people who had uprooted the colonial rule from India…Today, we are 140 crore people, if we resolve and move together in one direction, then we can become ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 by overcoming all obstacles in the way.”

“People’s suggestions for Viksit Bharat include governance reforms, speedy justice delivery system, promoting traditional medicines”

He also added, ” “We are capable of making India a developed nation by 2047 with our resolve”

Vocal for Local

“We gave the mantra for ‘Vocal for Local’. Today, I am happy that Vocal for Local has become a new mantra for the economic system. Every district has started taking pride in its produce. There is an environment of ‘One District One Product’…” PM Narendra Modi said while talking about ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.

Covid 19

“How can we forget the Corona period? Our country administered vaccines to crores of people the fastest of all, across the world. This is the same country where terrorists used to come and attack us. When the armed forces of the country execute surgical strike, when it does airstrike, the youth of the country are filled with pride. That is why the 140 crore citizens of the country are proud today.”

Reform for Strengthen India

 “Be it tourism, education, health, MSME, transport, farming and agriculture sectors- in every sector a new modern system is being created. We want to move forward by adopting best practices by integrating technology.”

“We have brought big reforms on ground. For the poor, middle class, deprived… for the aspirations of our youth, we choose the path to bring reforms in their lives. I want to assure the citizens of India that our commitment towards bringing reform is neither just for editorials, praise nor under compulsion. It is to strengthen the country,” Says PM Modi

Space Sector

Narendra modi talks about role of space sector making India Powerful. He added,”The space sector is an important aspect. We have done many reforms in this sector. Today, many startups are entering this sector. Space sector which is becoming vibrant is an essential element towards making India a powerful nation. We are focusing and giving strength to this sector with a long-term idea.”

Middle Class

Talking about Middle class Narendra Modi said,”Middle class gives a lot to nation and it expects quality life. It will be our endeavour to ensure minimum government interference with middle class by 2047″

Justice over Punishment

“We prioritized justice over punishment in new criminal laws,” on talking about impact of new criminal law,Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.

Women

“For working women, maternity leave has been increased from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. We not only just respect women, we not only take decisions for her sensitively, we make decisions to ensure that the government does not become a hindrance in the requirements of the mother to mak her child a quality citizen…” PM says.

Medical Students

PM announce to add 75,000 new medical seats and aims to enhance India’s education system. “”We want to build such an education system in the country that students don’t have to go abroad for studies,” he emphasized, underscoring the commitment to improve educational opportunities and retain talent within the nation.”

Hindus in Bangladesh

“”We hope the situation normalizes in Bangladesh soon. Indians want the security of Hindus and minorities there to be ensured,” Narendra Modi expresses the concerns over violence against Hindus and minorities.

‘One Nation, One election’

 “I request everyone to come together to achieve the resolve of ‘one nation, one election’,” PM Modi urged everyone on support of one nation, one election to enhance the efficiency.

Youth in politics

“We need to rid India’s polity from caste-based and dynastic politics. Soon, we want to bring forward one lakh youth in whose family there are no political associations. They may go in any party, but such fresh blood will strength India’s democracy.” he stated talking about the involvement of youth in Politics.

Agricultural Sector

Highlighting the need of transform in agricultural sector PM says,””It is very important to transform our agriculture system. This is the need of the hour,” also underlines efforts of government to improve live of farmers.

Uniform civil Code (UCC)

“A large section of the country believes – and it is true, that the Civil Code that we are living with is actually a Communal Civil Code in a way. I would say that it is the need of the hour to have a secular civil code in the country. Only then would we be free of discrimination on the basis of religion” PM said.

Atrocities against women

Pm Modi says,”Cases of crime against women should be investigated and those responsible should be punished without delay.””

“I would like to express my pain once again, from the Red Fort today. As a society, we will have to think seriously about the atrocities against women that are happening – there is outrage against this in the country. I can feel this outrage. The country, society, and state governments will have to take this seriously. Speedy investigation of crimes against women, those executing these monstrous deeds be awarded strict punishment at the earliest.”

He added, “it is important to create fear for consequences of rape”.”
